Story and team behind the app
Glasschair was initially conceived during the "Mobility Services" advanced practical course, which is offered by the Chair for Information Systems (Prof. Krcmar) at the Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich - TUM). The objective of the course was to create a Google Glass app, which has a positive impact on mobility. Since mobility has become a ubiquitous and somewhat commoditized aspect of our everyday life, we decided to focus on ideas that tackle areas with a lack of mobility. After carefully evaluating our options and the capabilities of smart glasses, the idea of Glasschair was born.
Lots of people worldwide, who are relying on wheelchairs, are not able to move their hands. Possible causes are spinal-cord injury, loss of limbs, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and many more. As a result, these people are not able to drive a wheelchair on their own and must completely depend on other people, or highly-expensive and uncomfortable solutions, to move around.
We believe in challenging the status quo and thinking differently to help these people get mobile independently, through a more affordable and easy-to-use solution, namely, Glasschair.
